1. Pre-war Crises
During the period from 1905-14, several crises occurred in Africa and the Balkans. These crises speeded up the coming of the war:
a. The Moroccan Crises (1905-06 and 1911)
b. The Bosnian Crises (1908)
c. The Balkan Wars (1912-13)
Europe was in a state of tension after the Balkan Wars. On June 28, 1914, a Bosnian,
, Austria-Hungary's future Emperor. This assassination took place in
, Bosnia's capital, so it came to be called the
. As the assassin was a member of a Serbian group, Austria-Hungary accused
of organising the assassination.
